What is a sober house?
A living environment that is free from alcohol and illicit drug use with a focus on peer support in a residential setting.
How much sobriety does SHOW require?
Generally a person should have 30 days of sobriety. This is not a bright line rule and individuals will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Sober living facility vs halfway house?
Sober houses facilities provide a safe, substance-free environment with recovery-focused programming to reinforce the long-term maintenance of sobriety. Members are generally allowed to stay for a more flexible period of time in early recovery. Conversely, halfway houses are typically government-funded and only allow Members to stay for a specified time.
Does SHOW provide clinical services?
No. The members of SHOW are expected to live independently and not require on-site medical, psychiatric, or other specialized services. If a person needs a higher level of care, they should look elsewhere.
Will I be tested for alcohol/drug use?
The program requires each member to agree to testing on an ongoing basis.
Are 12 step meetings Required?
Yes. All members are required to attend meetings. There are many AA and NA meetings within walking distance.
Does SHOW provide meals?
No. Members will be required to cook / provide their own meals.
What should I bring with me?
Clothing, toiletries, reading materials, cell phone.
